Dear GHS Families,

To all of our Moms out there, we hope that you had a wonderful Mother’s Day.

Celebrations, which mark the end of the school year, have begun. Senior Prom (June 3), Senior Awards (June 12), Graduation (June 15), Senior Post Graduation Party (June 15), Academic awards, Freshman & Sophomore Fun Days to name a few!

Thank you to all who donated money to purchase gift cards for Teacher Appreciation Week (TAW) for all GHS Teachers and Staff. Teachers and staff also enjoyed a wonderful lunch and sweet treats donated by families to each of the houses. The teachers and staff are very appreciative of all of your efforts to make Teacher Appreciation Week a success. A special thank you to our PTA TAW Committee, led by our chairs Nikki Glickman, Sue Hopper and Jenn Conte and our VP of Programs & Services, Valerie Rimmer.

PTA members will vote on the 2023-2024 GHS PTA Board of Directors slate as well as the proposed 2023-2024 budget during our Annual Membership Meeting on May 18th at 9.30 am. We need our PTA members to vote on these important matters. We hope you can join us and stay for the presentation entitled, Critical life skills your child needs before college with panelist Kristin Jacks, Alessandra Long and Clarena McBeth.

Critical life skills your child needs before college

Panelists: Kristin Jacks, Alessandra Long, Clarena McBeth

We often hear from parents that when students leave home for college, they have difficulty communicating with them and don’t always know how the transition is going. In extreme cases, some have reported that legally, parents are no longer able to access important medical or financial information, and cannot provide help to students in need. In this panel, we have invited three experts in the field - Clarena McBeth, mental health counselor and family therapist, Kristen Jacks, financial planner and educator, and Alessandra Long, attorney and advocate - to discuss how parents can help high school students gain the necessary life skills to be independent adults who can advocate for themselves.

This panel will address:

Important social emotional skills
Financial management skills
Health care proxy and other legal instruments that give parents access to critical information about their adult children

This is a must for parents of junior and seniors getting ready to head off to college, but also an important primer for parents of freshman and sophomores that want to build important habits and skills early on.

CMS Building Committee’s Second Forum – May 17

The Central Middle School Building Committee (CMSBC) has invited all members of the Greenwich community to a second engagement forum on Wednesday, May 17 from 7:00-8:00 PM in the CMS auditorium. Representatives from the project’s architects, SLAM, will be in attendance to share preliminary concepts for a new CMS. Community members will have an opportunity to electronically submit their comments at the forum. The session will also be broadcast live on Zoom (or dial 646 931 3860 and use Webinar ID: 819 0100 5163) and recorded for future viewing. The first community engagement forum was held on March 8; the video of it and the Q&A from that forum is available on the CMSBC webpage at the GPS website.

A Fiddler on the Roof

GHS Theater Arts will be presenting Fiddler on the Roof from May 18-20 at 7:00 PM in the GHS Performing Arts Center. The ticket link for ordering tickets is now live. Seating is assigned for this production, so order early for best seat selection. Tickets are $21.75 (including a small service fee for the online platform only) and tickets purchased online should be printed out and brought to the theater for admission to the show. Tickets will also be for sale each night at the door for $20 (cash, credit, debit or check).

2023 GPS Summer School

The 2023 GPS Summer School will be in session from Monday, July 3 through Friday, August 4. In addition to Extended School Year (ESY) services for all eligible PreK-12+ special education students, our summer programs will offer academic support for invited K-8 students with priority needs in literacy and/or math. This year, we offer tutoring options in literacy or math for invited families who opt out of the full-day program.

In addition to our academic support programs, we will hold Advanced Bridge Courses for middle school math students looking to accelerate their learning and Credit/Credit Recovery courses for GHS students. Invited students will be notified by April 1, with registration beginning April 15. GHS FALL SPORTS REGISTRATION INFORMATION

IT'S TIME TO REGISTER FOR FALL SPORTS!

Fall Registration for the 2023-24 school year is now open! All student-athletes must be registered through the GHS Athletics website by a parent or guardian. Football and Boys Golf begin on August 14, and all other fall tryouts start on August 24. More detail regarding tryouts will be posted on the sportsYou groups.

Please register early to allow time for the Health Office to process forms. Students aren't permitted at tryouts until registered and cleared by the Health Office. As part of the registration process, parents must email the Health Office to confirm a current Health Assessment Record (HAR) is on file.

Fall Sports at GHS include: Cheerleading, Cross Country, Dance, Field Hockey, Football, Boys Golf, Soccer, Girls Swimming & Diving, Girls Volleyball, and Boys Water Polo. Go Big Red!!

QuadJobs, an online job platform that connects student flexible, part-time jobs, is available for free to all Greenwich High School students. Having a part-time job while in school or over the summer is a wonderful way to earn money, build a professional network and gain valuable job experience.

A todas nuestras mamás allá afuera, esperamos que hayan tenido un maravilloso Día de las Madres.

Segundo Foro del Comité de Construcción de CMS - 17 de mayo

El Comité de Construcción de Central Middle School (CMSBC) ha invitado a todos los miembros de la comunidad de Greenwich a un segundo foro de compromiso el miércoles, 17 de mayo de 7:00-8:00 PM en el auditorio de CMS. Representantes de los arquitectos del proyecto, SLAM, estarán presentes para compartir conceptos preliminares para un nuevo CMS. El Violinista en el Tejado

GHS Theater Arts presentará El violinista en el tejado del 18 al 20 de mayo a las 7:00 PM en el GHS Performing Arts Center. El enlace para ordenar boletos ya esta disponible. Los asientos son asignados para esta producción, por lo que el orden temprano para la mejor selección de asientos. Los boletos cuestan $ 21.75 (incluyendo una pequeña cuota de servicio para la plataforma en línea solamente) y los boletos comprados en línea deben ser impresos y llevados al teatro para la admisión al espectáculo. 2023 GPS Escuela de Verano

La Escuela de Verano GPS 2023 estará en sesión desde el lunes 3 de julio hasta el viernes 4 de agosto. Además de los servicios del Año Escolar Extendido (ESY) para todos los estudiantes elegibles de educación especial de PreK-12+, nuestros programas de verano ofrecerán apoyo académico para estudiantes invitados de K-8 con necesidades prioritarias en alfabetización y/o matemáticas. Este año, ofrecemos opciones de tutoría en alfabetización o matemáticas para las familias invitadas que optan por el programa de día completo.

Además de nuestros programas de apoyo académico, vamos a tener cursos avanzados de puente para los estudiantes de matemáticas de la escuela media que buscan acelerar su aprendizaje y cursos de recuperación de crédito / crédito para los estudiantes GHS. Los estudiantes invitados serán notificados antes del 1 de abril, y la inscripción comenzará el 15 de abril. ¡La inscripción de otoño para el año escolar 2023-24 ya está abierta! Todos los estudiantes-atletas deben ser registrados a través de la página web de Atletismo GHS por un padre o tutor. Fútbol y Golf de varones comienzan el 14 de agosto, y todas las otras pruebas de otoño comienzan el 24 de agosto. Más detalles sobre las pruebas se publicará en los grupos de sportsYou.

Por favor regístrese temprano para dar tiempo a la Oficina de Salud para procesar los formularios. Los estudiantes no están permitidos en las pruebas hasta que estén registrados y autorizados por la Oficina de Salud.
